Villagers turn out in force to support pub
Melton: New watering hole opens its doors after closure
A NEW pub that has just opened its doors in a Suffolk village has got off to a flying start.
Ye Olde Coach and Horses Inn in Melton, near Woodbridge, closed earlier this year – leaving people without anywhere to drink.
Local company Deben Inns Ltd. has taken on the property on a 20 year lease and carried out a £100,000 renovation. The pub, a 17th Century coaching house in Melton Road which is owned by Enterprise Inns, had been boarded up since April. It left villagers with nowhere to drink following the closure of the Horse and Groom pub in Yarmouth Road, last year.
“It is a site we had admired for many years. We always thought it had a lot of potential. We are very pleased with how things have gone so far. “
Steve Lomas, of Deben Inns Ltd. said: “It is a site we had admired for many years. We always thought it had a lot of potential. We are very pleased with how things have gone so far. The opening was fairly low-key but we’ve had a phenomenal response. We have has a complete top to bottom refurbishment. We’re really pleased to be able to make the most of what is a beautiful building.”
Deben Inns is well established in Suffolk, with pubs including the nearby Wilford Bridge, The Maybush Inn at Waldringfield, The Fox at Newbourne, The butt and Oyster at Pin Mill and the Plough and Sail at Snape Maltings.
